Why It Was Quiet Here ... Five Acts in Four Weeks

There are three standard guesses when someone disappears from LinkedIn for three or four weeks. Nothing left to say. No time left. A crisis. I cannot blame anyone for thinking it. I think it myself when other people go silent.

It was all three. And none of them alone explains it.

I have not been silent because I had nothing to say. The opposite. There was so much happening in parallel that any single post felt wrong. Too small for the whole, too big for the moment. So I waited. Today, on a quieter weekend with moving boxes still in the garage and an old wading pool in the garden, is the right time to catch up.

Let me tell it. In five acts. No highlight reel. The story.

## Act 1 ... A new server moves in

His name is Olympus. He is the first big in-house server for Pandora and I was looking forward to him the way a child looks forward to a Lego set. For days. Then he arrived.

And then came the small frustrations that hardware never warns you about in advance. In the box were C13 cables. Built for data center PDUs. My office uses Schuko sockets. So first I had to order C13-to-Schuko adapter cables just to plug him in. Adapters arrived. Boot up. Noise level on startup: well past 90 decibels.

My neighbours were not amused.

We moved operation to nighttime and weekends, tuned the fan curve, talked to the neighbours. One neighbour runs a shift schedule, office in use around the clock right next door to us. The sound from the room next door felt, in his words, like living next to the Rammstein air base. Not exactly conducive to focused work, I admit.

At some point a lawsuit threat was on the table. It would not have been necessary. We were proactively ready to find a solution, and we found one. During the permitted hours the operation was a blessing. More compute, more room to breathe, more sovereignty.

Everyone involved can breathe a sigh of relief. Olympus moves into the data center in the next few days. There he can be loud. There he can run 24/7/365. Exactly what he was built for.

## Act 2 ... New people

We are building a team. CTO and other roles. We had actually already found the CTO back in October 2025. We only signed the contract now. Not because he hesitated, but because I had to. Funding brake. More on that in Act 3.

Anyone who has tried to hire in IT and AI as a micro-business knows the mechanics. Good people cost money. Really well qualified people cost real money. And those are exactly the people you need if you want to build execution power. The discipline that matters more than any idea in this industry today.

There are plenty of ideas. Execution power is the scarce good. In Germany it regularly fails not on capability, but on cash. Which leads to a question I have asked myself often in recent months:

> Why should it always be the ones who already have the means who collect the funding?

The candidates we talked to were infected by the story. They could have started immediately. We could already be writing about the next customer rollouts. The brake was not the talent. The brake was German bureaucracy. Which brings us to Act 3.

## Act 3 ... Funding and German reality

August 2025. The plan was set. K-BITE, my established company, was to be transitioned into the newly founded EFINITI Services GmbH. The first version of the business plan came together quickly. The final version took weeks.

I got lucky. Really lucky. At an event at FH Niederrhein, supported by a bank in Moenchengladbach, I met a key person. With hindsight, the single best suited person in all of Moenchengladbach for what I had in mind. She set in motion what otherwise would have taken months. Short notice meetings at NRW.Bank and WFMG. Funding programs explored. Doors opened that I could not have found on my own.

Before the end of the year the documents were ready. Submitted in January 2026.

Then the other reality kicked in. The responsible case workers at NRW.Bank were not particularly familiar with IT and AI wage subsidies. Follow-up questions, clarifications, additional planning documents, corrections. Meetings at IHK, NRW.Bank, the bank, WFMG. In every imaginable constellation. The final application was only ready for review in the last week of May.

Committee review is now running from June through July 2026. Earliest funding start is therefore August 2026. Exactly twelve months after the original plan start. There is a geometric joke in there that no longer amuses me.

> Without the bank and the advisor there would not have been any speed at all. With them it was fast. Structurally it is still too slow.

For a young company in IT and AI that depends on outside capital, this cadence is a catastrophe. Twelve months in this industry is a different world. Personally, I admit, it wears me out. What makes it bearable is the K-BITE base. An established company, running customers, running contracts. Without that anchor the bridge would be too long.

My lesson for anyone planning something similar: plan as detailed as possible and as generous as necessary ;-)

That is the only place in this text where a smiley is justified. It stays.

## Act 4 ... Flooding on the ground floor

So the plan was set in August 2025. Banks involved. Personnel approached. Then fate had a thought: let us check how serious Sascha really is.

A September night in 2025. Torrential rain over Moenchengladbach. Our private home sits at the lowest point of the neighbourhood.

Five in the morning. A child in the family wakes us up. They wanted to get something to drink and ended up half underwater on the flooded tiles of the ground floor. The shock. The panic. The disbelieving look as the scale became visible.

Then the usual reflexes. Buckets. Phone. Network. Insurer. Within hours, we organised what could be organised. Up to that point you function.

Then what nobody plans for begins. Seven months of construction site in your own home. The family pushed up to the first floor. No kitchen. Three bedrooms, one bath, an Ikea office desk in the middle of boxes of packed household goods as an interim dining table. Next to it, the rescued binders. On the ground floor: jackhammers on flood-soaked screed. New cabling. New underfloor heating. Tiles. Plaster. Paint.

Last week the base tiles were sealed. The first living room furniture arrived. We are taking our ground floor back.

Then the insurance dance. When the policy was signed back in 2009, the broker apparently forgot to record some details. That is being asserted now. Coverage not sufficient, they say. On 130,000 Euro of damage, 40 percent coverage is on the table. Instead of paying out those uncontested 40 percent, the insurer is holding the money back pending legal clarification. A one-time 9,000 Euro transfer, presumably a mistake. Since then, for seven months, nothing more.

> How fortunate that we hold all our policies with the same house. Except the legal protection one.

What really counts in weeks like these, you learn anew. A good network of tradespeople is gold. Staying focused under the worst conditions is a skill that needs practice. A solution always shows up eventually. Sometimes angels appear. And family is what matters most. At least that is how I feel it.

Everything else kept running in parallel. A funeral in the extended family. The family took on a new part-time job to shorten the financial bridge. Pushing Pandora forward. The K-BITE transition into EFINITI. Three signed contracts. A new server. An application at NRW.Bank. All in parallel. All with no pause button.

Yesterday the audio system moved back into the living room. The family really celebrated it. Finally eating to good music again, or just sitting and chatting. Anyone who has lived seven months without that knows how big it is.

## Act 5 ... Pandora

What do five acts about a server, personnel, funding and a flood have to do with a platform for AI agents? Everything. Pandora did not emerge despite these weeks. It emerged within them.

The promise at the end is simple. A customer can meet their compliance requirements, and then safely and calmly burn through their tokens to push their business forward with the help of AI, structured and focused.

## What these weeks have taught

Five acts. They belong together because company and life cannot be separated. Whoever wants to keep one of them clean by bracketing out the other is fooling themselves. Olympus, personnel, funding, water on the ground floor, Pandora. That is not five stories. It is one.

What I take from these weeks:

Endurance. Not as a pose, but as a method. Whoever does not drop out, stays in the game. Whoever drops out, has to start over.

Architecture. In the house, in the company, in the software. Whoever takes architecture seriously can still make decisions under pressure. Whoever neglects it loses the overview in the first crisis.

Patience. With funding agencies, with insurers, with neighbours, with yourself. Without patience, one of the five pillars cracks, and then the others crack with it.

Next week starts with Olympus moving into the data center. With onboarding the three new colleagues. With the living room slowly becoming a living room again. With an application heading into its committee review. And with a platform that step by step delivers on the promise its name carries.

I have not been silent because there was nothing to say. I was silent because there was too much for a single sentence. Now it is said.
